TPA-UK wrote a letter to British Thyroid
Foundation (BTF) asking numerous questions about statements on their web
site. The BTF responses are in italics.
June 2005:
The British Thyroid Association Executive Committee put out a statement
about Armour as thyroid hormone replacement. TPA-UK's responses appear
in italics. We responded to all their points, yet they have not yet responded
to our comments.
July 2005:
Sent out a questionnaire about
Armour Thyroid to 763 NHS endocrinologists. The results
of these have yet to be collated.
Aug 2005:
TPA-UK has designed a poster about thyroid
disease, which hopefully, will be distributed and displayed in all medical
centres, hospitals, libraries, pharmacies and public buildings.
Aug 2005:
TPA-UK sent out a copy of the Hypothyroid Patients Survey to all Internet
Hypothyroid Support Groups. Also sent out to 235 related support groups
with a PR asking for patients to complete this. We expect this to be ongoing
until no more requests are forthcoming. A NHS statistician will analyse
the results and these will be forwarded to various organisations.
Oct 2005:
TPA-UK response to the misleading and incorrect
information in the British Thyroid Foundation's Statement about Armour
Thyroid. A copy of this response has been
sent to ALL Officers of the British Thyroid Association, NHS endocrinologists
and General Practitioners as well as the Society of Endocrinology.
Nov 2005:
MP Mark Oaten has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament regarding the
diagnosis and management of thyroid conditions. TPA-UK
has written to every Member of Parliament asking them to sign the
EDM.
Nov 2005:
British Thyroid Association, British Thyroid Foundation and the Association
of Clinical Biochemists have produced new guidelines on Thyroid Function
Tests and have asked for comments to reach them no later than 23rd December
2005. TPA-UK have notified all NHS endocrinologists
and GPs with a letter regarding this.
