Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

The symptoms of hypothyroidism are usually very subtle and develop gradually, most often over a period of years. Every individual experiences symptoms differently, and will present with various combinations of symptoms.


 

Tests and Treatment for Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is typically diagnosed through the use of blood tests. However, since blood tests are not 100% accurate and because of the complexity of the condition, doctors may also use clinical symptoms and other tests such as a 24-hour urine test in order to reach a diagnosis. Once a diagnosis of hypothyroidism has been determined, the patient will begin thyroid replacement therapy through the use of synthetic thyroid hormone or natural dessicated thyroid extract. This section examines the tests used in the diagnosis of hypothyroidism and the treatments available.


 

Associated Medical Conditions

There are a number of illnesses that present themselves in conjunction with hypothyroidism. These include Candida, autoimmune disorders, and fibromyalgia, to name a few.
